Qualify For a Marijuana Card in California

Medical marijuana has been proven to be an effective treatment for a variety of conditions. Fortunately for California residents, the state is one of several states where medical marijuana can be legally sold. However, you can’t just pop by a dispensary and buy weed. You’ll need a medical marijuana card to legally purchase it.

A California medical marijuana card can only be obtained by a California resident with a valid California I.D. as proof of residency. Other proofs of residency can also be used: passport, out-of-state I.D., and a utility bill, among others. Additionally, you’ll need to be at least 18 years of age or have a parent or guardian with you, if you are below 18.

You’ll also need to provide your medical records. It should be easy enough to request from your primary care physician. These records should show that you are suffering from one of the state’s qualifying conditions. These include the following: cancer, anorexia, AIDS, chronic pain, spasticity, glaucoma, arthritis, and migraines.

Finally, you’ll need to get a recommendations from a state-licensed physician showing that you will benefit from using medical marijuana. The state has a directory of physicians that can give you a recommendation after a consultation, and showing them your medical records. If you’re able to fulfill these requirements, then you may be able to obtain your medical marijuana card.
