Do you know why marijuana has health benefits? The answer lies in its
active chemicals, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). These
chemicals impact the user’s brain in a way that relieves pain and other symptoms.
These effects were the basis of many states to legalize marijuana for medical
use. Here are some of the benefits of marijuana.
1. According to the Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics,
the use of weed can prevent epileptic seizures.
2. Researchers from the Canadian Medical Association found that pain from
multiple sclerosis can also be reduced by the THC compound found in weed.
3. The CBD chemical found in marijuana has potential to stop the spread of
cancer according to a report from the California Pacific Medical Center.
4. A Harvard Medical School research suggests that medical marijuana
reduces anxiety and might even be an effective sedative in small doses.
5. In a 2006 study published in Molecular Pharmaceutics, it was revealed
that the THC in marijuana also helps slow down the effects of Alzheimer’s
disease.
These are only some of the positive medical effects of marijuana. Business
Insider reported last April, 2014 that only around 6 percent of studies on
marijuana were aimed at analyzing its healing properties. It is expected that
in the future, more studies would uncover more information on how weed works as
a medicine, and how else it can benefit human health.
